Can You Draw the Mirror Image?
Preview

Can you draw the mirror image of a shape — reflected perfectly across a vertical axis? A shape appears on the left half of the canvas, and you draw its mirror image on the right. Your score is the percentage accuracy of your reflection. Mirror drawing is a classic neuropsychology task: it forces your motor system to invert learned spatial coordinates, creating the same disorienting conflict you'd feel writing backwards.

How to Play

  1. A shape appears on the left side of the canvas.
  2. Draw its mirror image on the right side — reflected across the center axis.
  3. The mirror overlay appears showing the true reflection.
  4. Your score is the area overlap percentage between your drawing and the correct mirror.

Why It's Hard

Mirror drawing conflicts with your overlearned rightward motor biases. When you intend to draw "right," the mirror-correct motion requires going left, and your hand resists the reversal. The corpus callosum coordinates both hands but motor memory for dominant-hand strokes is deeply asymmetric — left-right inversion forces a motor pattern your brain treats as "wrong" and actively corrects against.

Tips

FAQ

Does this relate to mirror-writing (writing backwards)?
Yes — mirror drawing and mirror writing both require inverting a spatial-motor program. Leonardo da Vinci wrote in mirror script, likely because it came naturally to his left-handed writing.
Is it harder for right-handed players?
Slightly — left-to-right is the dominant writing direction for right-handers, making right-to-left inversions feel unnatural. Left-handers often perform comparably on this task.
What overlap score is excellent?
Above 75% overlap is excellent. 50–75% is solid for first attempts. Below 50% usually means the shape's position on the canvas was miscalibrated.
